The study of dose gamma rays of 192Ir source on DNA single strand break (SSB) and DNA double strand break (DSB) in soft tissue phantom
Introduction: Passage of ionizing radiation through the organs of living creatures develops clusters of damaged nucleotides inside the DNA rounds. 192Ir Gamma source is one of the most widely used sources in brachytherapy of cervical and prostate cancer. Thus, in this research, we investigated the flux of photons and its resulting secondary electrons, the single-strand break (S...
متن کاملAction spectra for single- and double-strand break induction in plasmid DNA: studies using synchrotron radiation.
Ionizing radiations deposit a wide range of energies in and around DNA and this leads to a corresponding spectrum of complexity of the lesions induced. The relationships between the amount of energy deposited and the yields and types of damage induced are important in modelling the physical and chemical stages of radiation effect and linking them to biological outcome. To study these relationsh...

TDP1-dependent DNA single-strand break repair and neurodegeneration.
DNA single-strand breaks (SSBs) are the commonest DNA lesions that arise spontaneously in living cells. Cells employ efficient processes for the rapid repair of these breaks and defects in these processes appear to preferentially impact on the nervous system, causing human ataxia. Spinocerebellar ataxia with axonal neuropathy (SCAN1) is a human disease that is associated with a defect in repair...
متن کاملDNA Single-Strand Break Repair and Spinocerebellar Ataxia
DNA single-strand break repair (SSBR) is critical for the survival and genetic stability of mammalian cells. Three papers have recently associated mutations in putative human SSBR genes with hereditary spinocerebellar ataxia. The emerging links between SSBR and neurodegenerative disorders are discussed.
